IT: Chapter 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 movie IT. This movie follows the Loser’s Club (Bill, Ben, Richie, Eddie, Stanley, Mike, and Beverly) 27 years after the events of the first movie as they attempt to stop Pennywise the Dancing Clown for good. Pennywise is one of many forms “It” can take, the creepy shapeshifter changes to many forms to try to scare and capture the children of Derry, Maine.

The classic Stephen King novel adaptation has a wonderful cast that both looks and acts like their child counterparts (that show up in flashbacks throughout the movie). Each character feels well developed and unique, making the scenes where they are all together just as enjoyable as the scenes where they are apart. James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain shine in the serious aspects of the movie but Bill Hader and James Ransone thrive as the comedic relief of the movie. These two aspects blend well and the jokes never seem forced or out of character. Of course, the always spooky Bill Skarsgård, who commits himself solely to his role, is incredible as always. The story is easy to follow which allows newcomers who did not get the chance to see the first movie a chance to enjoy the film as well.

While the widely known concept of “the sequel is never as good as the first” slightly rings true with this movie, it is still a wonderful adaptation in of itself. With the amazing work of director Andrés Muschietti and being about to balance drama, comedy, thriller as well as child and professional actors perfectly, IT: Chapter 2 is an enjoyable movie to see with a group of friends, just don’t bring the kids.
