What if “Clue” was a movie (Knives Out review)

Chandler Reagh, Entertainment editor

When wealthy author Harlan Thrombey dies after his 85th birthday, it is up to Detective Blanc to solve his murder, and anyone could have done it. Each member of the family is a suspect and would gain something from getting Harlan out of the picture. The movie follows Marta, the nurse and friend of Harlan. Marta vomits every time she lies so Blanc trusts her so she helps the detective piece together the events of Harlan’s Birthday Party. Every new piece of information enthralls the audience more and more until the culprit is revealed in a very satisfying monologue.

Knives Out, directed by Rian Johnson, is a nice take on the murder mystery genre by taking things into a unique direction. The whodunit film has the audience actively making theories on who they think the culprit is. The movie is actually very funny but that never takes away from the mystery aspect. Each character has their time to shine in this movie, and worked so well because of the outstanding casting. Knives Out has an amazing cast of talented actors such as Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, and Daniel Craig. The film has made $75 million in its first week and has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Knives Out is definitely a movie that everyone can enjoy. It has comedy, drama, and mystery. All of these parts work together to make the audience so invested. With great actors, cinematography, writing, and an actually good mystery, Knives Out is an undoubtedly fantastic movie. It’s no mystery why it’s getting so much praise.
